Student Sponsor Partners - Education for Low-Income

Living and working in New York, John Westerfield is a seasoned finance professional. John Westerfield has spent his entire career in New York and frequently donates his time and money to local charitable organizations, such as the Student Sponsor Partners (SSP).

Founded in 1986 by an investment banker named Peter Flanigan, SSP has been using its resources to help low-income and academically average students through both mentorship and access to higher quality education. For the last 34 years, 100 percent of the students they have helped came from one or no-parent families who are classified as low income.

SSP also develops partnerships with local private schools that save seats every year particularly for students sponsored by SSP. They also offer a mentorship program that gives youth and teens someone to learn from and a way to build confidence and life skills, with almost 9,000 hours of one-on-one time every year. SSP’s college and career success program is essential for a lot of students, as they, on average, are more than likely to be the first person in their family to attend college or university.
